Iconic Logos or Branding

Nike

Apple

For me all of these logos are iconic and people remember them are we see most of them in our day to day lives. Its the same with a magazine, a magazine logo is iconic and is constantly at the forefront of any design or any reference to the magazine. The logo needs to be eye catching, memorable and mainly popular. It needs to look modern or old , so old and retrospective that it appears almost modern and back in trend , alike the MOJO logo.
I picked a wide range of logos, all apart from Apple which loosely has a musical link, the Nike brand today is iconic and widespread all over the world as a TNC company, the logo appears modern and sleek alike the Orange logo for mobile phones. The logo is simplistic and very basic as well as incorporating a splash of colour, its this style and approach which enticed me to explore current popular logos and branding

The other 3 logos appear classy and almost formal contrasting the NME or Q appearance and design as their design doesn't appear classy or the bottom line being, it doesn't look as good quality or as expensive. The quality of the logo and therefore thoughts about the magazine are orientated economically, for example the Paul Smith logo as well as the Waitrose brand, both commonly known as higher class brands do themselves justice by the font they use. The Waitrose brand appears so simple yet the font doesn't come across as a cheaper and poorer quality supermarket. The logo is simple and effective. Exactly what my logo and brand needs to be.
This same simplistic yet effective look is carried in the popular high street brand, TOPMAN where the black and white contrast represents a modern and unique style, reflecting what they sell in terms of clothing as well as the narrow font perhaps representing a more modern and refined approach.
